The service at Oxford Brookes campus originally
started as an informal arrangement through Dr. Leggatt in 1970's.
It has now developed extensively with a formal agreement with
Oxford Brookes University.
OBU medical centre opens in term time from 9:00am
to 5:00pm.
There is a daily doctor's surgery via appointments
only and provides general medical services. However, significant
medical emergencies can also be seen on the day. Oxford Brookes
University students can equally be seen at St. Bartholomew's Medical
Centre.
There is a full nursing service through our
practice nurses. They run both appointment-only type surgeries
and a daily drop-in service for which appointments are not necessary.
The drop-in service runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Practice nurses
provide a wide range of services. These include:
* Protocol-led minor illness management. Such
as treatment for acute tonsillitis, cystitis (bladder infection),
thrush.
* First aid.
* Sexual health advice.
* Contraception advice. Nurses can also prescribe the oral contraceptive
pills but only if they have been prescribed by a doctor here.
* Emergency contraception.
* General advice on sports injuries.
* Travel advice and vaccination.
* Help with stress and anxiety.
* Cervical smears.
* Asthma.
* Smoking cessation advice and prescribing is done by our practice
nurses.
